Abstract. In this work the problem of development of the mathematical device allowing to define degree of conformity of the diagnosed signal to a reference signal for devices of acoustic logging before and after geophysical researches of wells is solved. The relevance of the work is associated with the increasing number of “marriage” in the study of geophysical wells, due to the untimely detection of the defect of the geophysical instrument. The main element of the mathematical apparatus is the correlation method based on the Cauchy–Bunyakovsky inequality. As a result, the correlation coefficient formula is derived to determine the degree of conformity of the diagnosed signal to the reference signal, and the criteria for evaluating the performance of acoustic logging devices are developed.
